In January, thanks to the generosity of ProCure Hope, a non-profit formed by professional volunteers that responds to COVID-19-related crises, and OpenE, a logistics and technology company that provides e-commerce solutions for cross-border merchants and has warehouses and staff in China and the United States, we received $1 million worth of personal protective equipment (PPE) for distribution to human service non-profits throughout Massachusetts. This was ProCure Hope’s second donation of PPE to HopeWell during the COVID-19 pandemic; their first was back in April when supplies were urgently needed, but scarce.
Our first order of business was finding a place to store 18 pallets worth of gear—a combination of K-95 and paper masks—before organizing distribution. Our friends at Advocates agreed to take delivery—and then offered critical assistance in helping us get supplies out. Relying on Advocates, Inc.’s logisital expertise, we were able to distribute over 800,000 masks to 52 human service agencies caring for some of the most vulnerable members of our communities, including foster youth and children, teens, and adults living with disabilities.
We are incredibly grateful to ProCure Hope and OpenE for helping us keep essential human services workers safe throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. We’re also grateful to Advocates for being such an important partner in this effort. The past 12 months have brought heartbreak and loss. But in our collective responses to COVID-19, we have also witnessed—and been the beneficiary of—inspiring acts of generosity and kindness.
